It has been said, "To keep the faith, we must know the faith." We encourage everyone attending South Orlando Baptist Church to study the Word of God. Dig deep. Ask questions. Know what you believe.
South Orlando Baptist Church Believes:
1. The Scriptures (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:2-20).
The entire Bible, all 66 books of the Old and New Testament, are verbally inspired by God, and are inerrant in the original writings.
Through the providence of God, the Word of God has been protected and preserved and is the only infallible and authoritative rule of faith and practice.
2. God
There is only one true, living, sovereign, holy and eternally existent God.
He exists in three (3) co-equal persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Each is a distinct person with a distinct function, but all are of one essence and possess the same nature, perfection and attributes.
3. Jesus Christ (John 1:1-3; Matthew 1:18-25; Philippians 2:5-9; Colossians 1:15; 1 Corinthians 15:1-8; Acts 1:11).
Jesus Christ is God. He was conceived by the Holy spirit, born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, performed miracles.
He shed His blood on the cross as a vicarious substitute, was buried, bodily resurrected, ascended to the Father, and will return (literally, visibly, and personally) in glory and in power.
4. Holy Spirit (John 14:16-19, 16:7-15; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20; Romans 8:9, 8:11; Titus 3:5).
The Holy Spirit is God, co-equal and co-existent with the Father and the Son.
He is the chief convictor of sin and the chief agent of regeneration and sanctification.
The Holy Spirit indwells every believer and empowers every believer to live a godly life.
5. Mankind (Genesis 1:27-31).
In the beginning God created mankind in His image.
Humans were originally created with the ability to live perfectly for God's glory.
6. Sin (Genesis 3:1-24; Romans 3:10-23, 5:12-21, 6:23).
Adam, the first man, sinned by disobeying God, and that this disobedience resulted in the fall of all mankind.
All people have sinned and have lost their ability to live for God's glory.
Mankind's fall has produced both physical and spiritual death on everyone until there is forgiveness and salvation by the grace of God.
7. Salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9).
The salvation of lost and sinful humanity is a free gift of God's grace apart from human works and is based solely on the life and work of Jesus Christ.
It is received only through faith in the person and the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross, as a person is convicted by the Holy Spirit.
8. The Church (Matthew 16:18; 1 Corinthians 12:12-24; Hebrews 10:25).
The church is the body of Christ.
It consists of members who have trusted Jesus Christ as their Savior, been baptized, and are encouraged to meet regularly on the Lord's Day for worship, fellowship and ministry.
9. Evangelism (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8).
Every Christian has the responsibility and privilege to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ, and to seek to make growing disciples.
10. The Family (Ephesians 6:4; Proverbs 22:6).
God has ordained the family as the foundational institution in human society.
Marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in a covenant commitment for a lifetime.
Parents have the responsibility to bring up their children in the nurture and admonition of our Lord.
